Checklist

Is my child on track? Milestone checklist by age

Pick your child’s age, answer 15 quick yes-or-no questions, and get a plain answer about what to do next.

Free from Oaklin Lane’s therapists. Nothing here is a diagnosis, and if something feels off, that’s enough to ask.

How it works

Pick the age closest to your child’s last birthday. You’ll see 15 things most kids that age can do, from “walks while holding onto furniture” at one to “holds a pencil correctly” at five. Tap Yes or Not yet for each one. It takes about two minutes, nothing is saved anywhere but your own phone, and there is no sign-up.

These are the same questions our therapists hand to families, pediatricians and preschools on paper. We put them online so you can find them at 11 p.m. when the worry shows up.

What your result means

Looks on track. One “not yet” or none. Keep playing, talking and moving together. If something still feels off to you, that’s enough to ask. You know your kid best.

Worth a conversation. Two to four “not yet” answers. Kids grow on their own timeline, and this is the point where it’s worth mentioning to your pediatrician or to us. A quick screening tells you whether it’s wait-and-see or let’s-take-a-look.

Let’s take a look. Five or more “not yet” answers. This is where our therapists would want to see your child. An evaluation is not a label. It’s a clear picture and a plan, and it’s often covered by insurance.

Born early?

Use your child’s corrected age until their second birthday. If your baby was born eight weeks early and is 14 months old, answer the 1-year questions. Our corrected age calculator does the math for you.

A note on this checklist

This is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. Milestones are ranges, not deadlines, and one checklist can’t see your whole child. An evaluation with a licensed therapist is the only way to know for sure.

Questions families ask

My child is between two ages. Which one do I pick?

Pick the age of their most recent birthday. A child who is two years and nine months old takes the 2-year checklist.

Is this the same as a developmental screening at the pediatrician?

No. Your pediatrician uses a standardized screening tool like the ASQ. This checklist is a plain-language first look built from the surveys our therapists use in the community. If your result says “worth a conversation” or “let’s take a look,” bring it to your pediatrician or reach out to us.

Do I need a referral to get an evaluation?

In Texas, most families can start with us directly. Some insurance plans ask for a pediatrician’s referral first. We check your benefits before your first visit so there are no surprises.

Does Oaklin Lane keep my answers?

No. Your answers stay in your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to us unless you choose to request an evaluation.
