Who Oaklin Lane Is

Oaklin Lane is your neighborhood pediatric therapy clinic where hard work looks like having fun.

We help children from birth to age 21 grow the skills they need for everyday life: moving, talking, eating, playing, learning, and feeling at home in their own bodies. Our licensed occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists use evidence-based, play-based therapy. To a child, a session feels like climbing, swinging, exploring, and showing off for a new friend. Behind the fun, every activity is chosen on purpose and tied to clear goals.

We think of ourselves as good neighbors. Our clinics are a place of belonging where every kid, caregiver, and clinician gets what they need. Families often come to us after a long road of advocating for their child. Our job is to join them on that road and make the next steps clear.

Our mission

Oaklin Lane strives to be the place families find relief and clinicians find purpose, delivering pediatric therapy that works alongside every child, at every point of the journey.

Our vision

We envision a future where Oaklin Lane is the nationwide neighborhood clinic providing life-changing services to millions of kids.

Our values

We do the hard things. We choose what's best for each kid, not what's easy, because that's what leads to lasting change.

We meet you in your lane. Every kid is one of a kind. We build their path around them, creating family plans with care and consideration.

We show up for the neighborhood. Oaklin Lane is a community resource. We show up for kids, families, clinicians, and the neighborhoods we serve with compassion, patience, and transparency.

Our Founder's Story

Oaklin Lane was founded by Chris Callander, who serves as CEO. His reason for starting Oaklin Lane is personal, and he shares it openly with families.

Chris grew up in Louisiana and attended public school there. He struggled in school himself. As a young child he was held back a grade for behavioral and attention challenges that he now believes went undiagnosed. He remembers wanting badly to raise his hand and belong like the other kids, without the support he needed to do it the way school expected.

He also watched friends fall behind year after year. By the time he graduated, only about 60 percent of his class finished high school with him. To Chris, those weren't numbers. They were friends from his neighborhood. He saw what it meant for them and their families when no one stepped in to help. He made himself a promise: if he ever reached a point where he could help, he would.

His mother gave that promise its weight. When Chris was young, his grandparents, Enrique and Ernestina, were killed in the deadliest plane crash in Central America's history. Growing up with their stories taught him what matters most: gratitude, and the time we are given with the people we love. His mother taught him that a life is best spent in service of others.

For Chris, the path to pediatric therapy follows straight from those two things: the friends who slipped through the cracks, and a mother who modeled service. In his words: "Every child deserves someone who notices when they are struggling and who is willing to show up for them, and that, above all, is why we are here."

Chris's story was featured by the Lake Highlands Advocate in August 2026 in an article titled "For Oaklin Lane CEO Chris Callander, helping kids is personal."

Our Services

Oaklin Lane offers five connected services under one roof. Because our occupational, physical, and speech therapists work side by side in the same clinic, a child who needs more than one kind of therapy can often get it in one place, with therapists who talk to each other about that child's goals.

All five services are available at both clinics, in English and in Spanish.

Occupational therapy (OT)

Occupational therapy helps kids build the skills they need for everyday life. Our OTs support fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, play, and self-regulation, so children can take part more fully at home, at school, and with friends. Treatment strengthens underlying skills and adds supports that help a child succeed in their environment.

Common needs we support in OT include:

  • Handwriting difficulty and dysgraphia
  • Fine motor skills
  • Play skills and social interaction
  • Self-care skills, like dressing and feeding
  • Adaptive behavior
  • Brachial plexus injury
  • Arthrogryposis
  • Polydactyly and syndactyly

Physical therapy (PT)

Physical therapy helps kids build strength, coordination, balance, and confidence through play-based, goal-driven sessions. Our PTs evaluate and treat developmental delays, conditions, and injuries that affect how a child grows, moves, and interacts with the world. Treatment works on gross and fine motor skills, balance, strength, endurance, and sensory integration.

Common needs we support in PT include:

  • Torticollis and plagiocephaly
  • Low muscle tone (hypotonia)
  • Clumsiness and frequent falls
  • Toe walking and coordination challenges
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Down syndrome
  • Spina bifida
  • Muscular dystrophies
  • Genetic disorders
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Developmental delays
  • Attention challenges

Speech-language therapy

Our licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs) help children build strong, confident communication skills. We work on language, speech sounds, and social communication, meeting kids where they are and guiding progress with patience. Every child has something to say. We help them say it their own way.

Common needs we support in speech therapy include:

  • Late talking and language delays
  • Expressive and receptive language disorders (using and understanding words)
  • Articulation and speech sound disorders
  • Motor planning challenges, such as apraxia of speech
  • Stuttering
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Developmental delays
  • Down syndrome
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Hearing impairments
  • Cleft lip and palate
  • Weak oral muscles and tongue thrust
  • Traumatic brain injury

AAC and assistive technology: For children who communicate best with support beyond spoken words, our team works with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), including communication devices, to help them express themselves.

Feeding and swallowing therapy

Mealtimes are meant for making memories. Feeding and swallowing therapy supports children who have challenges with eating, drinking, and mealtime routines. Our feeding therapists are speech-language pathologists and occupational therapists. They work on both the muscles involved in eating and the way the brain processes the sensory side of food, so children can build safe, positive relationships with eating. Both clinics have a dedicated feeding room.

Common needs we support in feeding therapy include:

  • Picky eating and limited diets
  • Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
  • Difficulty latching
  • Tongue and lip tie
  • Failure to thrive and low weight gain
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Chronic pulmonary aspiration
  • Excessive drooling
  • Cleft lip and palate
  • Tongue thrust
  • Respiratory problems
  • Traumatic brain injury

Sensory integration therapy

Every day, a child's brain takes in what they see, hear, smell, taste, and touch, then organizes it and decides how to respond. That process is called sensory integration, and it plays a big part in mood, attention, sleep, behavior, and eating. When a child's nervous system has a hard time sorting that information, everyday life can feel overwhelming.

Through sensory integration therapy, our clinicians use play-based sensory-motor activities to help kids calm, focus, and organize their nervous systems, so they feel more regulated, engaged, and ready to learn. Our sensory gyms are built specifically for this work.

Common needs we support with sensory integration include:

  • Sensory processing challenges
  • Trouble with mood or behavior regulation
  • Inattentiveness
  • Struggling with transitions
  • Separation anxiety
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Learning difficulties
  • Balance and coordination
  • Gross and fine motor skills
  • Sequencing of actions
  • Self-esteem

Specialized training

Our therapists keep learning. They attend comprehensive continuing education, and team members hold certifications in areas including Integrative and Therapeutic Listening, Interactive Metronome, and Primitive Reflex Integration.

What to Expect: From First Call to Ongoing Care

Starting something new can feel overwhelming. Parents often wonder what the first visit will look like, how their child will respond, and what happens during a one-on-one session. Oaklin Lane makes each step clear.

Step 1: Reach out

Call, text, email, or fill out our introduction form at www.oaklinlane.com/get-started. The form takes about 10 minutes. Have your insurance information and your doctor's information ready. Therapy requires a referral from your child's doctor. Doctors can fax referrals to (972) 521-3216.

Step 2: An initial conversation

Before the first visit, our team talks with you about what you're noticing, your child's history, and what you hope to see change. You'll finish that conversation knowing exactly what comes next. Our office staff also checks your insurance benefits before treatment begins.

Step 3: Your child's evaluation

Evaluations are usually scheduled within 2 weeks. An evaluation takes about an hour. Your child spends one-on-one time with a licensed therapist in a calm space. It is a no-pressure, judgment-free visit where your child gets to show off their skills. The evaluation includes standardized testing and clinical observation, and your child's skills are scored against standard norms.

Step 4: Build a plan

The therapist writes a full report and creates a plan of care with short-term and long-term goals. Then you meet for a caregiver conference. You'll watch a short educational video about how the nervous system develops and works, so the results make sense. Then the therapist sits down with you to explain what they found and what they recommend. Many parents tell us this is their favorite part, because they finally understand what's going on and the path forward. You'll leave with a clear, personalized plan.

Step 5: Ongoing sessions and support

Most children come to therapy twice a week. Speech therapy sessions are usually 30 minutes. Occupational and physical therapy sessions are usually 45 minutes. Every plan is built around the individual child, so this can vary.

Consistent sessions, clear communication, and tools you can use at home make the biggest difference. Every family gets an individualized home program, a set of activities that fit into your daily routines so progress continues between visits.

What sessions feel like

For kids: A session doesn't feel clinical. It feels like playing, exploring, and trying new things. Our therapists follow the child's lead, meet them at their pace, and create space for them to feel safe.

For parents and caregivers: Children are in a safe, closely supervised environment, with open, connected spaces designed for visibility. After each session, you can expect clear communication, time for your questions, and guidance you can use at home.

Insurance and Payment

Oaklin Lane is in-network with the following plans at both clinics.

Texas Medicaid plans:

  • Aetna Better Health
  • Molina Healthcare
  • Wellpoint

Commercial and other plans:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBS TX)
  • UnitedHealthcare (UHC)
  • Cigna
  • Baylor Scott & White
  • UMR
  • Optum Physical Health
  • American Specialty Health (ASH)
  • Independent Medical Systems (IMS)
  • MultiPlan
  • TriWest

If your plan isn't listed: Call us. Some insurance companies cover our services at an out-of-network rate, and in those cases gap coverage can often be obtained to get the in-network benefit. Our office staff checks benefits before treatment and files claims with all insurance companies for services provided.

Self-pay: Families without insurance can pay privately. We offer discounts for families who are uninsured or underinsured.

Cost: The cost of therapy depends on your child's plan, your insurance, and any discounts that apply. Our team will walk you through your coverage before therapy begins.

Who Oaklin Lane Serves

Families we're a great fit for

  • Families with children from birth to age 21
  • Families in Lake Highlands, Rockwall, and nearby communities who can visit one of our clinics
  • Families looking for occupational, physical, speech, feeding, or sensory integration therapy, especially families who want more than one kind of therapy in one place
  • Spanish-speaking families, at either clinic, for any service
  • Families covered by Texas Medicaid plans (Aetna Better Health, Molina, Wellpoint) or the commercial plans listed above, and families paying privately
  • Families who have been told by a doctor, teacher, or daycare that their child may benefit from therapy, or who simply have a feeling something needs a closer look
  • Parents of babies with concerns like torticollis, flat spots on the head, latching, or feeding
  • Parents of toddlers who are late to talk, picky eaters, or late to walk
  • Parents of school-age kids with handwriting, coordination, attention, sensory, or speech challenges
  • Families of children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other developmental or genetic conditions

What Oaklin Lane does not offer

So families can find the right care quickly, here is what we do not provide:

  • ABA therapy. Oaklin Lane does not provide applied behavior analysis (ABA) or BCBA services.
  • Autism diagnosis. We treat children with autism, but we do not provide autism diagnostic evaluations. A diagnosis comes from a physician, developmental pediatrician, or psychologist.
  • Adult therapy. We serve children and young adults from birth to age 21.
  • In-home or telehealth therapy. All sessions take place at our Lake Highlands and Rockwall clinics.
  • Weekend or Friday appointments. Both clinics are open Monday through Thursday.

What Makes Oaklin Lane Special

Play-based therapy, backed by evidence. Kids learn best when they're engaged. Our therapists turn goals into play, so hard work looks like having fun, and every activity is grounded in evidence-based practice.

Purpose-built sensory gyms. Both clinics have large therapeutic gyms with suspended obstacle courses, full-size trampolines, foam pits, swings, scooter ramps, and more. This equipment lets therapists give a child's nervous system the kind of input that helps it change and grow. We keep investing in new equipment so sessions stay engaging and effective.

OT, PT, speech, and feeding under one roof. Families who need more than one service can find it in one place, with therapists who coordinate around their child.

Home programs for every family. We build customized action plans so parents and caregivers can fit therapy activities into daily routines. That way, skills learned in the clinic grow at home too.

Caregiver conferences that make sense of results. After every evaluation, parents sit down with the therapist to understand the results and the plan. Families leave knowing what's happening and what comes next.

Highly trained clinicians. Our team is made up of licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists committed to evidence-based practice and ongoing education, with certifications including Integrative and Therapeutic Listening, Interactive Metronome, and Primitive Reflex Integration.

Spanish-language care. Every service is available in Spanish at both clinics.

Relationships that last. In Rockwall, many families have been with us for a decade or longer, often with the same therapist. On Google, Oaklin Lane Rockwall holds a 5.0-star rating from 22 reviews, and Lake Highlands holds 4.9 stars from 44 reviews.

A team that's here to grow. We build career paths for our techs, assistants, and therapists, and we celebrate great work. Families benefit from a team that is supported, growing, and invested in their kids.
